Strings Lessons
Nick is currently accepting a limited number of Violin and Viola students
Violin/Viola
Nick offers violin lessons for children and adults. Children can start lessons at around age 5, though some children have the concentration and coordination to start lessons at age 4. For adults, it's never too late to learn to play violin or viola.
Students will need to be measured for sizing on an instrument. There are about 8 different sizes of violin, ranging from a full size violin/viola suitable for an adult or teenager to a 1/32 size suitable for a very small child.
Beginners will learn:
To play with good posture
Good finger technique for the left hand
To control the bow
The notes in the first position
The parts of their instrument
To read notes on the musical staff
To count rhythms correctly
To play some fun music!
Intermediate students will learn scales, technical studies, chords, shifting to higher positions, more detailed bow control, improved dexterity of the left hand and vibrato. Violin lessons include music history and theory to broaden the student's understanding of the repertoire played.
Advanced students will learn all scales, shifting in higher positions, advanced bow control and varied tone production, along with more advanced musical literature.
A classical training should come first as it provides the foundation of technique and control of the instrument that can be applied to further an interest in any style. Violin lessons for advanced students can include music from the classical repertoire to fiddle tunes, bluegrass, jazz, pop, rock and much more!
